Taking control in cyberspace
April 2008

Malcolm
Savage, Program Management Office Manager at Air New Zealand
likes to simplify things. He implemented Control so his staff
could share data and collaborate on projects – from
anywhere. He was enticed by many benefits Control had to offer,
but what really caused him to take action was being able to
work in real-time, in an online environment.
Air New Zealand is an international and domestic airline group
which provides air passenger and cargo transport services.
The Program Management Office coordinates governance and reporting
on all projects within the IT sector, with up to 100 projects
on the go at any one time.
Accessibility is important to Malcolm, especially when their
services are provided to over five countries. Control is web-based,
which allows data to be consolidated and shared right across
the board. Because it utilises the internet, accessibility
is only a laptop away.
“Control gives us the ability
to report real-time information about a project’s budget,
risks and milestones at any time. It is all about being able
to quickly gauge the health of projects.”
The added bonus is that Control is user-driven, user-friendly
and straightforward.
“Minimal training means an immediate
start. As easy to use as email – it takes approximately
half an hour to train someone on how to use it. The iToolsOnline
team go out of their way to respond quickly to our needs.”
Whilst their old systems utilised separate databases, Control
archives past projects in a central repository to provide Malcolm
with vital information to learn from the past.
“We can
search across projects’ histories to see
what worked, what didn’t work and what risks we should
be aware of before undertaking a new project.”
“The
end game is that all Air New Zealand projects will be registered
in Control. Control will become an enterprise-wide application.”
